A Mountain of Anime News Arrived Over the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays present a wealth of pursuits much better than catching up on the updates: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on festive fare, and using deep breathing to not arguing with family members. It is wished you were able to enjoy all these things and more. That said, the showbiz industry never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling news items came out during the break, and just in case you missed some of them, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (By 2027)

Perhaps the most shocking piece of news, the much-discussed controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to stop more episodes. The show will be back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. Yet, the promotional image for the second cour is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, at this point, they are probably trolling the fans.

Ruri Dragon Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it still retained the fans' appreciation and enthusiasm, and now fans are ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been airing for some time, and season 6 was another outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will almost certainly premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

One more studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two

Shortly after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has yet to be revealed.
