New England Equal Best Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Era with Triumph Over New York Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five touchdowns in the present year
New England equaled their best victory streak from the Brady period as they beat AFC East opponents the New York Jets 27-14 in professional football
First-year standout Henderson led the way with three touchdowns as the Patriots secured an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since iconic QB Brady's final season with the franchise in 2019
Quarterback Drake Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a score, connecting on 25 passes from 34 throws
The win extends the New England's lead at the summit of the AFC East as they improved to nine victories against two losses, with the New York bottom after falling to two wins and eight losses
The opposing team had gone in front at their home field with QB Fields running in a five-yard touchdown to conclude the Jets' first possession
But the Patriots answered in the second quarter as Henderson scored two seven-yard TDs before the running back hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the back of the end zone midway through the third period to push the score to 21 to 7
"That was a big time for him delivering, and it's been fantastic for him to keep getting these reps," Maye commented on the rookie. "He aims to be outstanding."
Fields found John Metchie toward the end of the third quarter to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Borregales converted a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the home side closed out the win
